SOLOMON KOONCE

Born in Jones County, North Carolina

Descendants of Solomon Koonce are hosting a family reunion this summer in Baltimore Maryland. Our goal is to bring together the extended family of Solomon Koonce to celebrate our family history and create new memories. We welcome everyone who can trace their heritage back to Solomon, no matter how distant the connection may be.

About Solomon Koonce

The oral legend is that Solomon's father was born in North Carolina.  All we know about  Solomon it is he was born in Jones County, North Carolina (formerly Tuscarora Indian territory) in 1826. Solomon was sold to a family in Tennessee when he was 19 years old.  The family to which Solomon was sold was named Koonce and they lived in Haywood County, Tennessee. He married twice, Amy Solomon who bore Solomon six children and Cherry Jelks Cole who bore Solomon seven children.

Solomon own over 250 acres of land in Johnsons Grove (Crockett County, TN). In 1922, Solomon said good bye to his wife and companion of 55 years, Cherry who died of old age ( approximately 84 years old).  Six years later, in 1928, Solomon joined her. He had lived to be 102 years old!
